Walkabout 2002 – Job from Hell and Dream Job Visualizing

You Want Me To Do What?

Job From Hell – Job Description

(These two posts were part of my private life review work that I didn’t put up publicly at the time of the walkabout.)

  • Sitting in front of a computer all day long (Update 2013 – Hmmm, maybe I need to look a this one again)
  • Not talking to anyone
  • Doing rote activities
  • A job where the work is insignificant/irrelevant
  • Requiring a long commute in rush hour traffic in a big city
  • No flexibility in the hours
  • Working for someone who is inflexible and unwilling to improve procedures and focus of business
  • A job where I have to be diplomatic all the time and not be honest (constant politicking)
  • Low-paying – not being paid what I’m worth
  • Being unappreciated and taken for granted
  • Having no responsibility/power
  • Having lots of responsibility and no power to accomplish the tasks
  • Where I am not respected
  • No creative freedom
  • Intensely detail-oriented
  • With no assistant
  • With someone constantly looking over my shoulder to make sure I’m working
  • With coworkers who are petty and who hate me
  • In a cramped office with no windows, no music, no color, and recycled air

Dream Job – Job Description

  • Getting out of the office
  • Meeting new people, talking to people face to face
  • Doing new projects all the time
  • A job where the work is significant/relevant
  • Short commute, no rush hour traffic
  • Flexibility in the hours
  • Working for someone who is flexible and willing to improve procedures and focus of business or working for myself
  • A job which supports honesty and integrity in my actions
  • High-paying
  • Where I am appreciated
  • And powerful (Update 2013 – Yeah – I got over this one.)
  • Having responsibility and the power to accomplish the tasks
  • Where I am respected
  • Creative freedom
  • Not detail-oriented
  • With an assistant
  • With no one constantly looking over my shoulder to make sure I’m working
  • With coworkers who are friends
  • Working outdoors or in comfortable, open, pleasant settings
  • Where I get the chance to travel
  • Where I can make a difference
  • Lots of time off

Other than the fact that this is listed as a “job” and not a business, this last list looks an awful lot like what I do now!  🙂
