Walkabout 2002 – Focus Equals Form

You Want Me To Do What?I feel like now that I’ve come to an idea of what I’m doing out here that I am more energized and focused. Unfortunately, I also feel as though I may be too focused, perhaps missing out on some of the subtle details. Things have been falling together rather well since I decided to work on the pilgrim path for others like me. I’ve had several people step up and say they want to be part of the road. I’ve also had some stuff fall into place about the ritual I’ll be doing at Thing in the Woods. Chas has offered to let me use his campsite for the ritual which is a fairly private space with a fire pit in the center. It’s perfect for what I want to do. I usually judge the universe’s assenting of my plans by the way in which things show up for me and things are going well. But I am on walkabout and things will inevitably go better on walkabout than in regular space. I am clear that this is part of my journey. But I have to be careful not to get too focused (as I am wont to do at times). I will have to be careful to maintain some sense of balance in this time so that I can get everything I need to get out of the experience. There are multiple levels I am working on these days. I have to make sure I see them all.

(Update 2013 – Looking back, this paragraph feels like it’s working too hard.  I WAS working too hard.  I mean after all, it was MY walkabout and what was I doing on it?  Trying to manage and facilitate other people’s walkabouts.  That’s not only the height of hubris, but it’s also a perfect way to avoid paying attention to myself.  It was coming from a place of love, but that still doesn’t make it a healthy approach.  I just keep looking at the struggling woman I was back then and I want to tell her – just be where you are.  Just do what you do.  Make the journey for you – not for anyone else.  YOU are the focus.  Allow.  Receive.  Engage.  Believe.  Enjoy.  This is good advice for me as I walk into my first weekend workshop of Manifest Your Mission where I will be helping others to find, engage, and bring into form their missions.  I’ll keep in mind that while I’m paying attention to their missions, I’m actually doing mine at the same time. [To my spirit guides] Thanks for the reminder guys!

Another interesting side note is that I have no memory of the ritual at Thing In The Woods – nor of the event itself at the moment – perhaps reading the next posts will help me jog my memory.)

On a different note, Chuck and I are going to see the Temple of Durin at the Metropolitan Museum of Art today and we will also be making a stop in at the Pierpont Morgan Library to see if they still have the hand-painted tarot deck on display that Andrew told me about. If we have time, we’ll head down to the Empire State Building and go up to the top where countless movies have been filmed. The two other things that we are definitely going to do are to see The Cloisters on our way out of town and see the Statue of Liberty (at least from the shore – I have no real need to walk up it).

Well, that should do it from here. I’m going to head off to breakfast now (my stomach is growling). One final note. I have started reading a book called Hyperion that Andrew gave me. He claims it is the best sci fi series ever written. It is about a pilgrimage, so I find it strangely appropriate to my trip. I haven’t gotten very far into it, but so far, it is engaging. I’ll let you know if any great parallels strike me along the way. Food now. Talk later.
