Struggling to Focus?

Focus is a HUGE issue right now.

We have to acknowledge that we don’t have the same amount of energy in a day that we used to. Much of our internal processing bandwidth is taken up with the issues of the world around us.

So first – do less.

In the long run, this will serve you. It will teach you to be more efficient and to be ruthless about what you DON’T need to do. Take as much off of your list as you possibly can and then plan to work only 4-6 hours a day initially. Studies show that we are only productive at our highest levels for about 2 hours a day, so you’re already pushing past your prime at that rate. Delegate/hire out as much as you can too.

Part of poor focus is having too much that you’re trying to do at once. Reducing the amount you have to do is one good way to help.

The next is to acknowledge that studies have also shown that multitasking is a myth. We actually lose time every time we switch from one task to another. So block out your time and do one thing at a time. Turn off your phone and your notifications while you do it. You can check your messages on your breaks.

Third is to give yourself something to focus against. I like to listen to Classical music or Binaural Beats for Focus and Concentration on YouTube when I’m getting things done. This gives me something that doesn’t have words in it to tune out – increasing my focus.

And last, start practicing stillness. Stillness is the act of becoming fully present in the moment – without judgement or having to change things. Acceptance and presence. Spend 5-15 minutes a day in Stillness and you’ll notice your focus improving dramatically.  (And this has the added benefit of also being a building block of being able to do magick more effectively!)
