Walkabout 2002 – Circle of Friends has Expanded

My circle of friends has expanded greatly, and as I was preparing to leave Bloomington this morning, I got out my pilgrim’s passport to have Daniel sign it before I left and I stopped to read a few pages. (For those of you who don’t know, the passport is a little book which I have had everyone I have stayed with on my journey sign.) I realized that this book is full of love and welcome. It is a gift to me from all those people who already gave me the gift of their company and a place to stay. It is evidence of the abundance available to me if I just look for it. I give great thanks to Andrew who not only provided the idea of the passport as a way to mark the journey, but provided the book as well. I never would have done it otherwise. And I would have missed a wealth of meaning.

It’s funny what people will say if you give them the opportunity. I wonder what each of you would say to the people in your lives if you stopped to write it down. Just a few words. Just a few thoughts on what their presence in your life has meant to you.

I did this once a few years ago with my close circle of friends at the time. A note from the heart telling them how much I appreciate them. At the time, there were only four notes. Today, it would probably take me a month to finish those letters. As I wrote above, my circle of friends has expanded greatly. And my gratefulness has expanded with it. I am so blessed and nurtured by the people that surround me and I just wanted to say “Thank You.”
